Camp Wickitawa, here we come!

Mary Hershey's third book about fourth grader Effie Maloney is a hilarious Texas adventure, complete with a camp ghost, swim lessons, rescued armadillos, campfires, and cowgirl stew.

Effie has been waiting forEVER for St. Dom's special fourth-grade camp. Could there be anything more thrilling than an entire week with her two best friends? But when her big sister Maxey (Bosszilla) ends up working there, Camp Oh-So-Perfect turns into Camp Calamity. And Effie has to figure out how to hide the fact that she's not, um, the greatest swimmer. She can't even float. But she better learn fast, because she just HAS to be named Outstanding Camper of the Week and win back her family's good name! (And she is N-O-T homesick. Completely and totally not even.)

Fourth grader Effie Maloney is back for more fun in Mary Hershey's latest novel, LOVE AND POLLYWOGS FROM CAMP CALAMITY.

"Hershey has created a big-hearted hilarious heroine who will surely generate interest in the first two books of the series," and LOVE AND POLLYWOGS FROM CAMP CALAMITY is the perfect book for kids to kick back with during the care-free days of summer.

—Kirkus Reviews

Effie, a lovable and realistic ten-year-old, has been counting down the days until her week away at camp with her best pals, Aurora and Nit. But a bad case of altitude sickness (aka home sickness), an inability to swim, and a bossy big sister who will be at her camp make for calamities of epic proportion as Effie tries to deal with the issues that arise when she is away from home for the first time.

St. Dom's fourth graders have always gotten to spend their spring breaks at Camp Wickitawa, and Effie has been dreaming about the moment since her older sister when to the camp three years ago. Effie knows all about the lake, the mess hall, the souvenir store and the fact that you can get free soda refills with no one around to warn about tooth decay! Best of all, one camper is chosen at the end of camp as Outstanding Camper of the Week, and Effie desperately wants to be chosen.

But Effie's arrival at camp brings her a dose of reality. The mac 'n cheese has peas in it; Maxey has decided to ignore her; she's the only kid that can't swim. Effie's week at Camp Wickitawa is a memorable one as she stands up to her nemesis, Kayla, and a new friend, Chica, helps her test the water.

Kirkus Reviews says, "Hershey has created a big-hearted hilarious heroine who will surely generate interest in the first two books of the series," and LOVE AND POLLYWOGS FROM CAMP CALAMITY is the perfect book for kids to kick back with during the care-free days of summer.
